Things to share

I've got to make it one more week. We have Lump coming for 4 days, I still have to finish the vinyl on youngest child's house and I have a gun show this weekend at the Hoover Met. I have been trying to sight in the 257, 25-06 and a 30-06 as well as check my 6.5 x55 and a 30-30 that the boss doesn't know I have for over two weeks. It's either raining the wind is blowing 100mph or I have six other things to do.

Just saw Walz trying to shoot pheasants to try and get "dude" voters. He was using a Berreta a400 and said he bought the gun 2 years ago because he shot a lot of trap and it had a good recoil pad on it. He didn't know how to load the thing and struggled with it. I thought it was funny as hell. What a dipstick.

6 rds 25-06 at 100 yds. The three in the middle are Hornady 90gr The three fliers are Privi Partisan 90 gr hollow point. Either one is minute of deer but I think I'll stick to the Hornady rounds. The red circle is minute of little plastic bowl lid maybe 3-4 inches across.IMG_9672.jpeg

4 1/2 X14X40 VX3 Leupold with the Boone and Crockett reticle. This is the one with the Savage action, EA Shaw barrel and the Boyds At One stock.

On another note. There was a safe at the estate sale that didn't sell. No combination. Walked by it and threw the lock...While it was open...Before some pecker head locked it closed.
It was fixing to get scrapped....So I went and grabbed it. Brought it home and removed the inside mechanism cover, and cracked the sucker. Fire safe model, good size for pistols.....Might have strained my milk getting it in the truck.
Today is last day of this job. Finish a little clean up and return borrowed trailers....All done.
Came out with some fairly good stuff. Picked up a floor scale I'd been looking for, a steel cabinet for the AGT gun range. Steel table frames for the meat shop. Various other items....Cost me about $30...
Now I have to haul ass and cut wood. Had to fire the fireplace upstairs last night. Have very little wood cut. House is trashed. Haven't been here much the last couple months because of this sale...working. now I have to catch up before the weather turns.....

Good deal. Belve......any Rems or Wins with that group of guns you got?
Sorry I didn't see this earlier but we have been going like our shirt tail is on fire. There is one Winchester in 30-30 made in the late 1800's I think. I have four of five Marlins left, I'll have to look. I know one of the Marlins is in 30-30 --I think made in 1940 and another in 35 Remington. The other Marlins are a couple in 38-20 and one in 32 rim fire. I got one 22 pump in a Winchester. I've got a couple of Springfield trap door rifles and one of them is a carbine that's pretty spiffy. Now that the madness of the gun show is over I'll get them all on the auction.

Yeah....get em on the auction and I will look at them there.
I got 3 of the Marlins on tonight. I was going to shoot for getting 5 guns a night on there but I only got 3 today before the phone rang and the Fed-ex truck came and the dog chased a deer and then my youngest called. I'll try to get some more tomorrow but I have to go and try to finish the vinyl on her house tomorrow so I ain't promising nothing. After all day up and down on an extension ladder I may not even be able to get back in the house tomorrow.

Seems like the same everywhere. Same shit here. Do this, Can you do that. Jump here, jump there, I'm fixin to go on strike. I STILL ain't picked out / sighted in my deer rifle.
Found out a BIG 12 is running at the ranch. The girls saw it while herding a bull back into a pasture. And the girls KNOW a big deer when they see one. This may be the one I missed last year. I didn't get the chance to study him real good ? But I know he was BIG. They saw him a couple hundred yards from where I shot at him.
I'm down in the back again. I need to scout and clear shooting lanes. Brush and hills with some open pasture. All on a smaller scale, bulls in the area. This is gonna be tough hunting, Think I'll drop some wheat seed. The few deer I've seen ? Are now tending to go to green feeding.
I've got a draw picked out on the edge of a pasture. On this stand I think I'm gonna give the 7.7 Jap the nod for hunting. Will set another on a pasture along the highway. Most likely used the 300 wsm in this stand. These pastures are MUCH larger.....Picking a location is gonna be tough. The reason for scouting the area. Try to get the drop on how/where he's moving. I know where he's bedding at, but can't hunt there. This is gonna be a TOUGH hunt, This ole boy has got a damn good set up for a deer. And I'm gonna have to think real hard on how to ambush him.
This is going to take some work and skill....Wish I hadn't missed his ass last year...

I need to find a farm close by to hunt. There is one I know of that I would like to ask permission but its up for sale right now. I would love to buy it but they want 1 million for it. I might ask permission anyway. We will see.

At the place I'm hunting we haven't even planted green fields. It's all bush hogged and plowed but it hasn't rained in almost a month and everything is as dry as a popcorn fart. There isn't any use in putting seed on anything just to let the birds eat it and the fertilizer go to waste. We are just sitting and watching the weather.

Another question.......you all know I like TC contenders and always looking for barrels. I have most all the calibers at this point. I look on eBay for them as well. There are some for sale by a feller that says they were involved with a fire. They look pretty rough and I wouldn't buy one if they were a penny. So my question is....if a barrel has been involved in a fire.....wouldn't that ruin the metal as far as the hardness is concerned. Would these things even be safe to shoot?

I wouldn't shoot one. Krp would know more than I do but I know it changes the hardness and structure of the metal. It also depends on the make up of the metal and at what temperature it affects it and how does the guy know how hot the fire they were in got? All these safes now say they are fire rated for x amount of time but my question is how can they tell how hot it got in the safe in whatever time they are rated for ? I guess if you could find somewhere to hardness test the barrel you might could have a pretty good guess if it was affected by the fire.

Wouldn't buy it ! Fire will change the Rockwell hardness in steel or metal in general. Steel that too is hard gets brittle, and will shatter under pressure. or will get too soft. Either condition could be very dangerous. Could also cause the steel to warp or bend.
I would not touch them. PLUS ! If they were in a fire. The person having them has been paid for these by insurance and trying to double up on payment and risk your life ? Screw em.
