Krps Projects

Hand checkering. I don't know the full price but I will get with him about what I want. Nothing too fancy but maybe some point checkering. This feller was easy to talk to and is about our age. You can Google "David Campbell Stocks" and see his work and read about him.

Schnabel is on, took some time, smaller graceful type, working within stock limitations ? Thought it turned out quite well.
Looking at the overall lines and style of the stock ? I'm not sure about the grip cap. I'm going to use language here I normally don't use ?
But this stock is starting to take on subtle and graceful lines. Kind of sleek in appearance. It has GOOD figure, I'm not sure at this point I'd checker it. I think a grip cap may look out of line with the overall style/lines. But that's personal preference. I slimmed the fore end down a bit. would have gone further, but the previous inletting has kept limitations on what I can do without seriously weakening the structure of the stock. Within those limitations ? I'm thinking the stock is looking pert damn good.
It's being sanded/filled at 150 grit paper right now. Next step, cut for length of pull, and put in sling studs. Order recoil pad and grind to fit. We will go with a 1" Limbsaver. I'll go out on a limb here ? But I'm fairly sure this rifle will have good balance.
Let me get some linseed on the fore arm, then I'll post some pics.

I cant wait to see it. Why not checkering? When you are ready, let me see a pic. Grip cap might not be critical.

Checkering...Matter of opinion. For me ? I've bought MANY used stocks with hand checkering for CHEAP money. I don't think effect justifies the cost. And in some cases it obliterates the wood grain in the stock. To me, It isn't a must have.
I'm ready for recoil pad. Will need a LimbSaver #10543 Large 1" grind to fit. Have the swivel studs here already. Will cut L.O.P. first thing in the morning.
The rifle is getting close to final fitting....

I was looking at the pics of the stock again and where the grip cap would go would need right much work where the grip cap would go. The stock now kind of flows into the bottom of the pistol grip. It would need some shaping to get a grip cap to look right. I don't think I would want the grip end too pronounced to accommodate a grip cap. Just a question but other than a grip cap, is there anything else that could be done? I hate to even say it but maybe some kind of inlay? Just thinking out loud here. What do you think.? Or...would you really do anything?

At this point, the lines of the stock flow into each other well. I think I'd hold off and see the stock in person, before making any rash moves. Once it's done, can't be undone.
This stock is understated style. The lines are there, they flow into each other VERY well. As you know, there is all sorts of styling to be had. Depends on taste.
There are many things at play here. This rifle to be used in the field ? Weatherby stocks were designed by a guy named Gary Goudy. The stocks were gorgeous ? but not very practical in the field. Looks as though Boyd's copied this style stock on the Prairie Hunter. Putting it in laminate was a stroke of genius kinda. A thinner, longer wrist, but you can do that with laminate, not wood. Wood could and does split.
Let me get the finishing touches on this stock, Look at it in it's semi finished shaping. Then see if it works for you. Pics never do justice to the finished product in hand.

Oh....I can wait....I just like talking about it. I am almost like an 8 :) year old at Christmas with this thing.

Alrighty then. Just finished the bedding on Double's shooter. It's tight and right, a major pain in the ass ? But it's right. Need to get a recoil pad here. Next is swivel studs, I have them here... then into full finish mode. Double, Iffn ya can, order a Limbsaver off the store and get it shipped here. The number is in post above. Belve can have it shipped directly here. I'm on a short leash this month.....

Will do.
I ordered and I think it will ship to you. I put you in as a secondary address but couldn't find a "bill to/ship to" screen. Maybe Belve could verify.

Hope they do better'n USPS...It came from Texas too. Rifle is coming together fast. Have to have welding done on mag box. Nothing major, just is not deep enough for the stock. Have to have 4 little feet welded on the bottom. Like I said ...nothing major, Just don't want it flopping around in the stock.

Oh, 25-06 is head spaced, fixin to do the 8x57. Found something interesting. On Mauser barreled rifles. You CANNOT used PPU or ANY other ammo that does not have a cannelure on the bullet. It will hang up on the chamber edge.

Yep, Belve sent tracking. One thing I can say for our store ? They don't screw around on shipping. EVERYTHING I've bought has been smoking fast.
Working this morning on getting shit cleared up so I get the recoil pad fitted on rifle. Sling studs are on. Stock is bedded, Finish on wood is about 80% done. Things are coming together fast.
I'll get some pics on today. I'll have to get the mag box welded Monday....maybe.
Got the 25-06 and the 8x57 done last night....head spaced anyway. STILL pissed about it...11 friggin days for reamers to get here ? took me 1 1/2 hours to do the work. And that was a problem job (hard steel).
The 7x57 has been a challenge ? But I think you'll like what I've done with it. If not ? We have other options.
