FFL questions

I was thinking about something. (no, it didn't hurt) I got to thinking about the shipment of my item to Krp. I'm just throwing this out there but if Krp was an associate of AGT and other builds in the future would come his way then couldn't items be shipped to him direct rather than going through another FFL? For example, if Krp was an associate, would he have to work out of the address that the FFL is listed under? Or could he be in another State while "working" under the AGT FFL? I know that places like "Sportsman Warehouse" the FFL is held by corporate and all the stores work under that FFL. There is no one in the actual building that has an FFL. It is in the main office somewhere.
I don't know how all that would work with an individual FFL but what exactly would be the difference? I am only using your shop Belve and KRP as an example for explanation purposes only. I know what I am trying to ask, just don't know if it came through understandable.

The "gun" as in action or part thereof that makes it a gun has to be received and kept at an FFL holder unless assigned to an individual that has passed a background check as in 4473---period. He has to work out of the registered address of the FFL. If a gun is left for "gunsmithing work" it can be returned to the owner without a background check IF it is returned within a 24 hour period----period. That is ATF regulation. You receive the gun it has to be at an FFL registered address and held at that address until it is signed for and a 4473 is completed and the gun is transferred to a person that has passed a background check. The ONLY way for a person to ship to another person without going through an FFL is if the firearm is being held for the owner---say a hunting trip. The person can ship the firearm to another address in THIER name and then ship it back to their home address after the event. Places like Sportsman Warehouse have each address listed ( and approved) as addresses under and listed on their FFL. In some cases it is a different license all together because it has been considered manufacturing not gunsmithing work. It seems silly but we, as in AGT, cannot even put a scope on a rifle and sell it as a package because that is considered "manufacturing." If the gun is purchased and then the scope is purchased and then we install the scope then that is gunsmithing and is ok. If the gun comes from a manufacturer as a package, with a scope installed, then that is ok to sell.In any event if the gun is dropped off at the shop, and it takes more than 24 hrs to attach the scope, the gun goes into the A&D book and the person has to fill out a 4473 to get their own gun back. That is why we have to list all the guns we take in as consignment sales. It doesn't make any sense but it doesn't have to, it's the government. They don't do things to make sense or to make the business any easier ( even though that is always a stated case) they do things to make it easier for them to penalize, fine, prosecute, and revoke. They have to justify their jobs somehow.

So...someone with an FFL cant have an "associate" at another address? Only one address can be listed under a FFL? Even if one is an associate with that FFL?

Correct. The only "associates' are with law firms and the mafia. There can be only one. The ATF has certain criteria as to where a gun shop can be---so many feet from a school, access for them at any time, all firearms stored at address, A&D book on premises at said address, yada yada yada. If we wanted to have a different location it would require an FFL for that location. If we wanted to move from the AGT license location we have now we would have to apply for another license. If a building were to come available in Clanton say and AGT wanted to expand, you can't transfer the license---apply for another one and wait.

OK...."Sportsmans Warehouse".....each store has their own FFL.? I thought only corporate held the FFL for all of them.

The FFL can be held in the name Sportsman Warehouse BUT each location has to have their own license and address on the FFL license. The license has to be posted on the wall ( which I always thought was kinda dumb, because your FFL number can be seen). Each FFL number is attached to an address.

Yes. Each license is issued to an address with the name of the license holder at that address. Ours is issued to All Gun Talk dba American Gun Trading at the Thorsby address---not my house address. The shop address. The company inventory has to be kept separate from the personal possessions.
