Well, Ran into a new and interesting nightmare. The recoil starter on the splitter shot craps on me. This is a Kohler Courage XL 80/800/whatever. Went armed with, paper, pencil, flashlight and magnifying glass, Got every friggin number off the engine ? no help, Kohler has 25 different sub models of this engine on the website..... Just found out trying to get parts for Kohler engines is a F!@$%#@ NIGHTMARE !!!! They have the WORST PDF file for parts I've ever seen. Spent 2 days screwing around in the website trying to get a part number ? Didn't happen. THINK I may have the right part/parts ? who the hell knows, The recoil spring is MORE than the whole friggin assembly ???? WTF ...And they made 3 different assemblies for the recoil starter ? All are "RETIRED"....These sneaky low life MF'ers. I found what I THINK are the parts on Amazon. They sent the SOB's USPS....SHIT.
It's a SpeeCo splitter, with a Kohler engine, Country Tuff brand name, distributed by Orshlens Farm and Home (sold out to Tractor Supply)
In 7 or 8 years, this is the first problem I've had with it. 22 ton, and is a bad ass splitter. And the SOB is most likely made in China. What a shit show.
What I think is going on ? This was sub contracted to Kohler, by SpeeCo and when the filled the contract ? Quit making the engine. Hence the "RETIRED" status.
Plus, the first 3 searches on Amazon pulled up nothing, then looking back on my search a couple probable's popped up on the page ??????
The pisser is having to do this by a friggin picture....No dimensions, part numbers, or spec. info.
